I have seen many QuadraCopters in operation in all the RC Groups. This is the fastest and the person handling the chopper is very good. They are probably one of the best camera beds availble for those special videos or snaps. Low weight loading on the motors. See what you think about it. Lets see one built in this club now.

Re: A Hot Quadracopter....Anyone?
Hey Bob,
I started building a quad a few years back when gyros were almost twice as much as they are now... bummer. I since sold all the stuff to a friend of mine. I've been thinking on building a larger quad... A fella in the other club I am a member in (Bob Desmarais) is an avid quad builder/flyer too... he's built quite a few and even messed with tri-copters in the past... he's taken many great videos from this stable aerial platform too... some of his vids are here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/signguy8250#p/u
He's also on RCgroups... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=51129
I'm still messing with the heli idea too... not sure I'm enjoying it like I do with planes!

Re: A Hot Quadracopter....Anyone?
Hi Tom
I ran into some flyers local while building my Emily flying boat. I tracked some names and found Tom Desmaris action with his tri-copter. The video was not bad. He is doing a good job flying these copters. I do not think I could fly one. I also an not attracted much to whirly birds. Just interesting to see though.
Thanks

1-2013 Quads are Advancing in Updated Technology
I have ordered the parts to start a entry level Quadracopter. Here are the links I am using to help me get started. I have founfd an expert flying at the Auburn Sports Dome. He has posted almost all the info neeeded to get started. The Hobby King KK2 Power board has been updated and highly recommended to start with. Here are some related links to give it a go. It is best to get the ARTF system from HK. They are backordered at this time. The frames are in though as of today.
The Quad parts locator:
Here is where I have started gathering parts if they are in stock.
http://www.etheli.com/SK450KK2/index.html
ETFD2- a larger Quad. Not a good starter set as it is piecemeal constructed and advanced.
http://www.etheli.com/ETFD2/index.html
SK450KK2 - I was recommended to get this as the entry level. Hobby King sells them ready to go if you can find them in stock.

HK SK450KK2 Frame in stock. Get the KK2 controller also

HK has the complete HK450 here but backordered. ARFT

The new 808 Keycam No 16 V2 B lens
HD Key Fob Camera:
This is the best and latest version KeyFob camera. They take snapshots and video. They are mainly good for hobby use but do take HD movies. If you are looking for a good home use camera for family pictures, obviously this is not the camera. It uses a lipo battery and Micro SD type card. There are 3 types of lens options. These are on eBay. Be careful as you could end up getting an earlier version. You can also find mini Quads here and of course on eBay.

The Very Good Instructionals by TechGuy:
There is a lot to observe here. It is hard for someone unfamiliar to rake it all in. YouTube has the How To assemble ,setup, and fly videos. Look for all the TechGuy related parts of this video. There are others also in the sidebar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3jeBseWkFI
You can also find some video here that shows how clear it is. I find it does not like quick panning. The films are repetitious but give you the idea what you can do on a Quadracopter, jet, or prop plane. Velcro it on with a safety string.

Hey Bob,
Wow... you must have been reading my mind...
Actually, a group of us from our Tiverton, RI R/C club bought parts for a decent 450 size quad... all parts (combo) from here:
http://www.rctimer.com
The 450 combo kit I think is still like $105 (free shipping) for the frame, motors, esc and props... you just a add a $15-20 flight controller and your r/c receiver/battery.
Quad Combo: http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=go ... oodsid=789
MultiWii Lite Flight Controller: http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=go ... oductname=
Cool, cheap kits and decent flyers too!... I just got mine flying pretty good last week and even flew it today in the wind purposely to see how it handles now that I tweaked some auto-leveling parameters. It's a gadgeteer's delight for sure
There are amazingly tons of quad, hex and octo kits out there, some reasonabll priced, some really expensive. And as many quads as there are, there are just as many flight controllers. Again, some dirt cheap like mine ($12 on sale over the holidays), or some super expensive ($400-500 w/ GPS, etc...). We all are using the MultiWii Lite Rev1 controller... $15-18 and lots of forum support. I've heard the KK boards are decent but programmability is limited (you are limited as to what you can tweak pretty much) It takes a bit to get it all programmed and tweaked but then again (for me at least), that's the fun part! Just last week, I spulrged & purchased a 650 size Quad from RCTIMER... I plan to use a stabilized GoPro cam and auto-pilot (ArduPilot controller)

Re: Value Hobby. Order part missing
I recieved my Quad frame from Value Hobby last Saturday and there was a vital part not in the box. I called and they do not answer the phone. They say send an email. I emailed a support question for the part and yesterday they got back after the weekend. He says he has to check his stock LATER. and would get back to me. Today I am still waiting for a call or mail and nothing. I called again and the phone says email. I mailed this morning and asked again for the part. Nothing. I called again this afternoon and the phone says email. I emailed at 5Pm and still waiting. As he said "LATER". OK later when? Later never?? I will give him bad marks and notify the club in Auburn about this also. I will remove all the links above and then email Value hobby about what I am going to do with his customer service also.
This Damn part is $2. You would think I was robbing a bank from him I guess.

Re: A Hot Quadracopter....Anyone?
Finally got my Power Distribution board today along with the power panel brain. Esc's and props, with collets also in. I am now starting all the motor and Esc wires plug soldering and will be doing the brain assembly maybe tomorrow also. I still have a transmitter conversion to 2.4ghz. with a do it yourself kit DIY conversion. It may be some days before my trial and testing yet.
