Just looking at some projects to upgrade or repair as the end of the season is fast coming in. One of the first is to repair again my Buzzard Bombshell Old Timer replica. I flew it after a major rebuild and after a couple laps the signal was lost and it dove into the ground. The nose was smashed again. So I repaired it back to where it was and it is ready to go again This has a fake nitro motor onboard. I added a fake wood carburetor and old needle valve. The whole lower end is cut away to fit above the E-Power motor. This was earlier this year.

My Brothers old Sterling Kit Corsair here. I have it here on display since his loss. The model is reaching around 35 years now at a guess. My garage is very dusty and it collected years of dust. It has never been flown or had a motor installed. It will probably never fly at all. Cleaned and ready to hang up again.

Here I have a hand me down flying wing that was uncontrollable if pushed to the limits. The owner did not like it. I flew it and it behaved fine if flown modestly. When you did kick up rolls and climbs it went crazy and tumble in a forward roll and twisted. I wanted to get it to fly normal and do reasonable flight antics without loosing control. The plan was to glue in the existing ailerons and fill them in and then add on new balsa ailerons. The increased wing area would calm it down.

The top photo shows the ailerons glued in place with the new balsa replacements below the wing. The bottom of the wing shows the foam fillers in place before spackling with Lite Spackle.
The last 4 pictures is the finished wing with all installed and the paint all retouched to give it a refreshed look. I test flew the wing and it is flying like a regular PopWing now with good traits.

This is a very unusual flying RC model called an Ornithorptor for those that may not know. The first 2 photos are of the mechanical muscles to fly the bird. I machined the aluminum gear to replace a stripped plastic gear. As you can see in this thread I am working on hand me down models, This was from my friend Carlos, thank you Carlos. After I setup the electronics recently I flew it successfully in a large circle.Darn it looks real as it flies away. It was nose heavy as I had constant up control to get it to climb. I will move the battery back some in the next test. Included is a video to see its operation. I also added another link of one flying with another owner. There is a description of the maker of these birds that unfortunately died in a car crash. These are as far as I know not made anymore. Other manufacturers are naking a variety of smaller birds though.
My garage demo here:

There is another good video flight here. Looks like the same bird and is accosted by a real hawk at 3:30 minutes in. Read the Comments also.

This model I guess is some type of sport glider. Anyways, I bought this last year at an auction. I tore the Spectrum yellow receiver and a stabilizer out. I put in an older 72 Hitec receiver in to match my Polks transmitter system and got it all set up. Next there was some 3 bamboo skewers from the fuselage thin section to the rudder and the outside of the stabilizer edges. I removed those also. There was a disk with a servo out front of the motor pod that open and closed like a clam shell. Removed that and foam blocked it in and trim sanded it. After spackling all the holes and dings I touched up the plane with waterbase white and hug it up. It is ready to fly now. Just a day and a half to get it ready.

Merry Christmas all BCRCC Members and all the Visitors from all over the world . Peace Be With You All.
Here I have another hand me down. This is from my past friend Frank's son Dave Baptista, Thanks David. It is ano longer available GWS F4u-1 Corsair. This will be completely repainted into a Goodyear Racer for Reno races. I am just starting on this while I wait for material for another GWS project Dc-3 Eastern Airlines model. But while I wait I will start on this warplane conversion

The initial picture is the way it sits right now. Almost ready to fly. The Goodyear pics will be a copy of an original in red and white is my goal.

Today's operations January 6th I started with taping of the Corsair to get the red paint done as toward the scheme. In the 4 picture photos I show that it was taped up. It was important to try to seal the tape edges so I would have a minimal bleed of the red color into the white. I succeeded in accomplishing this. It may seem like more time spraying the plane. But the payoff is that I would spend less time addressing the paint bleeding. I am happy to say I had good luck that way. There was some red that made it under some tape areas but very minimal flaws. The Corsair is finished now. Finally got my decals made up. Took a while to get the process figured out using a laser printer and a load of time getting them sized up. After everything is all laid out I setup my cheap Badger airbrush (under $10 and covers larger areas) setup and gave the overall plane a coat of gloss clear poly-urethane enamel. I let it hang for 2 days and worked on the Dc3 Douglas Eastern airliner decals. Here is a historical photo link.

The model GWS DC3 Douglas Eastern Airline is in this lineup. I remember in the 1950's into the 1960 era when they flew out of New Bedford, MA airport before their demise. I spent almost 5 days doing the decals. I am waiting on the laser decal paper to be shipped maybe in a week to finish that plane. It is all aluminum covered. But this is all coming later. A few pictures of the plane.

You can find this plane original build project in the page 02 of the Electric Forums here. Look at the bottom right in the Electric Forum pages.

Here is a website with the history of the Eastern Airlines DC-2 and DC-3 airplanes. from when it started mid 1920's up until it was replaced after in late WWII to the newer DC-9 four engine models.

Decals may have to be adjusted to fit properly. They are not perfect and I had to run plain paper test sheets first Then I would us the clear or white decal sheet accordingly.
