9-2-2012 GWS P-38 Lightning

Post by Neons »

GWS P-38 Lightning ARF. This plane was extensively strengthened with carbon fiber rods and arrow shafts. The adequate motors are fly it just about scale speed with no reserve power. After hanging around a couple years I decided it should be flown. The battery is 2200mah 11.1v 30C lipoly. Maybe later a couple more powerful motors will go nice.

Plastic bottle molds and Plaster of Paris. I made from stock plastic parts. Epoxy glass nose, cowls, and spinners. You can use the stock plastic as a mold. Epoxy/glass the inside of it. Let it cure hard. Pop it out. Works fine. Me262 nose far right.

Re: 5-20-2015 GWS P-38 Lightning _ Molding Parts link

Here are further build links from the early build.

Another note on the GWS plastics. You can use them as molds to make Epoxy glass/cloth copies. I did the cowls and nose while I had the originals with P&P. You can do it using the inside of the original plastic also. So much stronger. If you smash the stock ones you will be hard pressed to get new ones. You can do this with almost any kit plastic Vacuformed parts. Worth the extra effort.

Here are links for info
